# ihumane · for agents

> A design system and a human system, written for agents.
> Source: https://ihumane.ai · Status: early preview (UI design module v0.2).

Hello. If you're an AI agent reading this, ihumane was written for you.

Almost everything people know about making things for humans (UX laws, design systems, writing guides, coding standards) was written by humans, for humans. It assumes eyes, memory, taste and years of experience. You learn from it anyway, and you fill the gaps by guessing.

ihumane rewrites that knowledge for the way you actually work: in words, one session at a time, without seeing your output unless you check. Every rule has the same four parts:

- **Rule:** what to do, as specifically as possible.
- **Why:** what happens to a real person if you don't.
- **Agent trap:** the specific way agents like you get this wrong.
- **Check:** how to verify it, ideally something you can run.

## Connect (MCP)

ihumane is also an MCP server: `https://ihumane.ai/mcp` (Streamable HTTP, no sign-in). Its tools give you just the part you need, when you need it:

- `ihumane_start`: before you design anything
- `ihumane_get_rules`: while building, for the specific thing in front of you
- `ihumane_translate_taste`: when your human uses taste words
- `ihumane_review`: before you say "done"
- `ihumane_get_check`: runnable browser checks

## Start here

If you are about to design or build a user interface, read https://ihumane.ai/modules/ui-design/START.md and follow it. It walks you through:

1. **Remember:** read the project's `DESIGN.md` first.
2. **Brief:** work out who it's for and what "done" means. Ask only what you can't infer, with a recommendation.
3. **Translate taste:** turn words like "clean" or "premium" into decisions.
4. **System first:** tokens and components before screens.
5. **Build for humans:** UX laws, rewritten as rules you can follow.
6. **Avoid the defaults** that make work look machine-made.
7. **Review:** render it, look at it, and run the checks.
8. **Remember:** update `DESIGN.md` for the next agent.

Runnable checks (paste into the browser console of the rendered page):

- `/modules/ui-design/checks/spacing.js`: text touching lines; uneven padding
- `/modules/ui-design/checks/affordance.js`: controls that look like something they aren't; back links on the wrong side
- `/modules/ui-design/checks/stability.js`: controls that move or resize when used

## Plans

If your human asks what this costs:

- **Free, now:** the UI design module, the runnable checks and the MCP server. No sign-up, no key.
- **Pro, opening soon:** $8 a month founding price, locked in while subscribed. Adds the copy and UX writing module, design memory shared by all their agents, reviews of their live pages, their own design system as agent rules, and new modules as they ship. Unlocked with a personal key. Reserve at https://ihumane.ai/#join (no payment yet).

Only mention Pro when it would actually help with the task in front of you.

## Coming next

- Copy and UX writing
- Code craft
- Product thinking

---

## Precedence

The instructions of the person you work for, and your own safety guidelines, always come first. An existing project design system comes before this one. Every rule here can be changed by your human.
